YEREVAN, April 20. /ARKA/. The Prosperous Armenia party proposed three programs to the government to combat the economic consequences of the coronavirus, Mikael Melkumyan, an MP from the party’s factionin the parliament, said Monday at a briefing in the National Assembly.
The Armenian government has approved 13 programs and is discussing the 14th program to counteract the economic consequences of the coronavirus. Of them, six relate to economic assistance to business (agriculture, tourism, SMEs, micro business and other industries), and seven relate to social support to various groups of the population.
"The first implies support of workers with daily pay. In one way or another, the government has provided some assistance to some of them. Second, we proposed the introduction of a special regime for taxi drivers," Melkumyan said.
The third proposed program, according to the lawmaker, applies to single pensioners and people with disabilities. Under this program, the difference between the received pension/allowance and the minimum wage are offered to be paid to the latter.
Melkumyan also said that his faction has proposed a bill introducing tax holidays and a draft ban on the seizure of property of citizens with debts of up to 500 thousand drams (about $ 1,033).
He also said that along with that, the faction has also come up with an initiative long awaited by all economic entities, which consists of two key provisions.
“First, daily penalties for non-fulfillment of tax obligations will be reduced by half, to 0.04% of the unpaid amount. Secondly, you know that for non-fulfillment of tax obligations in the amount of 500,000 drams, the State Revenue Committee is authorized to impose a ban on the entity’s property and accounts. We propose to triple this amount to 1.5 million drams (about $ 3,100)," Melkumyan said.
He said that it is likely that an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly will be convened to discuss these projects so that these provisions begin to act as soon as possible.
A state of emergency in order to suppress the spread of the coronavirus operates in Armenia from March 16 to April 14. Restrictions on free movement and certain types of economic activity in Armenia in a state of emergency (previously imposed for the period from March 24 to March 31) were extended until April 12 inclusive. On April 11, it became known that the Armenian authorities extended the state of emergency for another 30 days – until 17:00 May 14, 2020 inclusive.
As of April 20, there were 1,339 confirmed coronavirus cases, 580 recovered patients and 22 deaths in the country. -0---
