Residents of Armenian provinces are less prone to link their well-being with the authorities’performance when compared to residents of the capital city, according to the findings of a recent public opinion survey conducted by Sociometer polling center, which were announced today by its head Aharon Adibekyan.

YEREVAN, September 25. / ARKA /. Residents of Armenian provinces are less prone to link their well-being with the authorities’performance when compared to residents of the capital city, according to the findings of a recent public opinion survey conducted by Sociometer polling center, which were announced today by its head Aharon Adibekyan.

The survey conducted in March and April of 2014 in 82 communities across Armenia and 13 administrative districts of Yerevan involved 6,004 people, of whom 1,604 refused to take the questions. 

Speaking at a news conference Adibekyan said the survey found that 36.1% of  respondents believe the most important social task is to create more jobs, 14.4% said it is increasing pensions and social benefits, 8.3% said medical services should be more available while another 47% believe that resumption of operation of previously working enterprises would resolve many social problems.

Adibekyan said 39.2% of provincial residents believe that the problems can be solved by the president, 28.9% pin their hopes on the prime minister, and only 3.8% on the National Assembly. Some 1.8 percent hope that provincial governors can do so, 3.7 percent - local governments and 0.1 percent- parliament members elected from single-mandate constituencies.

As for Yerevan residents, the situation is slightly different. Here 44.7% of respondents believe that the problems can be solved by president, 19.7% - by the prime minister, 3.7% - by the National Assembly and 1% - by government agencies.

Besides, 24.6% of Yerevan residents said social problems could be resolved by big business, 4.2% - by the mayor and heads of administrative districts. One percent pin their hopes on help from abroad.
The authorities in Shirak, Gegharkunik and Armavir regions received the highest appraisal of respondents, while the lowest appraisal went to the authorities of  Vayots Dzor region. 

The best operating administrative districts in Yerevan were Avan,  Davidashen and Malatia-Sebastia. The worst were Erebuni and Nork-Marash, according to the survey. Adibekyan said this was the first such survey ever conducted in Armenia. -0-
