YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. The situation with the coronavirus in Armenia is exacerbating, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Monday during a live broadcast on his Facebook page.
“Naturally, there are questions that are of interest also to us, including one of them: what is our “mistake” in the fight against the coronavirus? I put in quotation marks not for the reason that I came to some conclusion, but for the fact that I want us to discuss this matter,” he said.
The premier said his findings are such that a mistake that can be specifically formulated is that citizens excessively demonstrate confidence in the individual responsibility of other citizens.
He noted that the whole strategy during that period was to notify citizens as much as possible about the seriousness of the situation and to make necessary preparations in the country’s health system during this period, then go to remove restrictions and provide a number of conditions under which there would be a 100% guarantee of security.
“Our assumption was that citizens would not adhere to the rules for the sake of the state, government and so on, but, first of all, for the sake of their friends and relatives. There is an opinion that we too trusted this assumption, but now the question is: should whether we continue to express confidence or not? I want to say that even now I believe that the measure №1 should be individual responsibility,” Pashinyan said.
The prime minister said that if people comply with three requirements: do not touch the face without disinfecting hands, wear masks wherever possible and do not come in contact without masks and talk without a mask only if a distance of 1.5 meters is observed, 45% protection against infection will be guaranteed to them.
"If we comply with these rules, we will not only defeat the coronavirus, but also implement civilizational changes in our society," Pashinyan said.
He noted that the government will resort to administrative tightening, and recalled the need to wear masks.
“I urge that each of us, with our individual responsibility, help us to carry out this ‘coronvirus’ revolution. Compliance with this rule will lead to zero spread. There are days off, and there are suggestions that people will celebrate in large groups. I urge and ask, follow the rules also on non-working days” the prime minister said.
He also pointed out the need for mutual assistance in the current conditions, so that there was no need “to re-expose the economy to shocks and go to the repeated universal closure of everything”.
“We hope that we will not make such a decision,” Pashinyan said adding that everything depends on the behavior and actions of each citizen.
