YEREVAN, August 31. /ARKA/. A hospital in Armenia's second-largest town of Gyumri specialized in the treatment of infectious diseases and a medical center in the town of Spitak, which were used to treat patients with Covid-19,  have returned to their normal operations, Alina Nikoghosyan,  a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, said in a Facebook post today.

According to her, a unit at Martuni Medical Center, which also treated people with coronavirus was also closed.
“Currently, the situation with coronavirus has stabilized in the country, and there is no need for so many  hospitals to treat people with the infection,” she wrote.

She said that a total of 67 patients from the three hospitals will be transferred to Yerevan to  continue to receive the necessary treatment, and the Ministry of Health will ensure their return home after their treatment is over.

Nikoghosyan also added that parts of the Gyumri hospital and the Martuni medical center, if necessary, will serve as a triage center (reception, diagnostics and  transportation) for people suspected of having coronavirus.

“At the moment, there  is only one such center in the medical center of Kapan,” she said.

The state of emergency in order to suppress the spread of the coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16, 2020, and then it was extended five times for a month each time. The  latest extension ends on September 11.

Restrictions on free movement and some types of economic activity introduced on March 24 were removed on May 4. On May 18, public transport, gyms, kindergartens and catering facilities were allowed to resume  and starting from August 12, foreigners are  allowed to enter the country. The government also allowed holding meetings and rallies, but wearing  face coverings in public places and  observing social distance remain mandatory.

As of the morning of August 31, some 43,781 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in Armenia. 879 people died from COVID-19 and  37,722 patients recovered. -0-
