Wanted son of Syunik governor turns himself in

Karen Poghosyan, the son of the governor of southeastern Armenian province of Syunik, who was wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, turned himself in to the Investigative Committee and was transferred to Armavir penitentiary, the Investigative Committee spokesman Vardan Tadevosyan told Novosti Armenia news agency.

YEREVAN, September 23. /ARKA/. Karen Poghosyan, the son of the governor of southeastern Armenian province of Syunik, who was wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, turned himself in to the Investigative Committee and was transferred to Armavir penitentiary, the Investigative Committee spokesman Vardan Tadevosyan told Novosti Armenia news agency.

"Karen Poghosyan tuned himself in yesterday. Now, investigative actions are being carried out, after which the case will be referred to a court which will have to decide whether Poghosyan will be placed under arrest or remain at large pending the end of the investigation,’ the spokesman said.

According to the Investigative Committee, a group of men led by Karen Poghosyan tried to kill on July 14 two residents of the provincial town of Goris. The latter were wounded and hospitalized. Karen Poghosyan went into hiding immediately after the shooting and was placed on the list of wanted persons.

A criminal case was initiated on the grounds of attempted murder and illegal acquisition, storage and use of weapons and ammunition.

A suspect or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to a court ruling that has entered into legal force in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia. --0--
