Construction of Albert Azaryan school with a budget of 6.9 billion drams kicks off in Yerevan

YEREVAN, August 25. /ARКА/. The construction of a sports school honoring Olympic champion and "King of the Rings" Albert Azaryan has begun in Yerevan, announced Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan via his Telegram channel.
The government has allocated a budget of 6.9 billion drams for the sports school. This budget encompasses the design of the new facility, construction activities, authorial and technical oversight, sports equipment, interior design, and infrastructure planning.
The sports school will feature a specialized sports hall for rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatics, a universal sports hall with seating for 532 spectators, utility rooms, changing facilities, bathrooms, administrative and service areas, a parking lot for 88 vehicles, a technical zone, a storage area, and a workshop, along with a heating and ventilation system tailored for individual rooms.
The completion of the sports school is anticipated by November 2026. This new sports school aims to serve as a modern training hub for approximately 300 young athletes, adhering to international standards. The complex will also be equipped to host international competitions, thereby enhancing Armenia's standing and reputation in the realms of gymnastics and sports.
Additionally, the new facility will host the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which will take place in Armenia for the first time in 2027, with comprehensive infrastructure preparations in place.
Albert Azaryan, the renowned gymnast, passed away on September 5, 2023, at the age of 94. He was a three-time Olympic champion, a four-time world champion in artistic gymnastics, a two-time European champion, and an eleven-time USSR champion.
Following his athletic career, Azaryan took charge of a gymnastics school in Yerevan and also served as a judge for international competitions.
In 2000, Albert Azaryan was honored as the best Armenian athlete of the 20th century by Armenian sports journalists. In 2004 and 2008, he was given the privilege of carrying the Armenian flag during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Athens and Beijing.-0-
