Pyunik football club put up for sale: owner claims harassment by Armenian Football Federation
YEREVAN, 18 September. /ARKA/. The owner and president of Yerevan-based FC Pyunik (the reigning Armenian champion) Artur Soghomonyan has decided to put the club up for sale.
‘I thought for a long time and decided to sell FC Pyunik and then leave Armenian professional football. The main and only reason is the ongoing harassment by the leadership of the Armenian Football Federation for more than two years. Unfortunately, the situation has long gone beyond common sense and professional ethics, turning into a personal confrontation. It causes great damage to the team, the fans and our academy, and most importantly, to the reputation of Armenian football. For more than two years we and the Pyunik Football Club have been fighting against the intemperate behaviour, aggression and incompetence of the Federation's leaders,’ Soghomonyan said in a video message.
According to him, over the past 4 years, 5 teams of the Higher League, as well as 6 major investors have left Armenian football, stating that it is impossible to work with incompetent heads of the Federation.
‘Unfortunately, I have also come to this conclusion. It is a very painful but balanced decision for me, because I really see no point in working in such an unhealthy environment. I am sure that there will be people interested in continuing the glorious history of the Pyunik football club, which has not only achieved great achievements in recent years, but has also become widely known both in Armenia and abroad,’ the club owner noted.
Addressing the parents and students of the Pyunik Academy, Soghomonyan stated that he will continue to invest in the club's Children and Youth Academy, and all children will continue to receive education in their age groups.
Soghomonyan stated that he is not going to leave Armenian sport and will continue investing, as he believes that the development of sport is very important for the country.
He expressed readiness to return to Armenian football when the leadership of the Federation is changed and people who will be really interested in the development of football will come to lead it.-0-
