Ameriabank-financed green energy projects reduce CO2 emissions in Armenia by more than 57,000 tons

YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. Over 118 million kWh of "green" electricity were produced in Armenia in the first 9 months of 2023 thanks to the projects financed by Ameriabank, Eduard Arakelyan, Head of Sales and Corporate Clients Relationship Management Department at Ameriabank, said Tuesday on the margins of Energy Week 2023 in Yerevan. According to him, this allowed reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 57,000 tons.

‘Ameriabank has made a long-term commitment to create a stable environment and facilitate the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. Back in 2020, the bank issued and placed green bonds worth 42 million euros, which was the first such program in Armenia," he said.

Arakelyan noted that today the bank has agreements for green loans worth AMD 46 billion, about 50% of which have already been placed in the field of clean energy production.

As of September 30 this year, the market share of Ameriabank's loan portfolio in the energy sector was 33% (over AMD 35 billion).

"Now we are also implementing several major projects, which will significantly increase the bank's portfolio in the energy sector," he said.

"We, as a leading financial institution, attach quite a lot of importance to the development of this sector and the continued growth of its share in our portfolio," he said.
