Armenian ministry promises significant rise in scientists' salaries
YEREVAN, May 31. /ARK/. Armenia's Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan announced today a rise in the salaries of scientists.
Speaking in parliament, the minister said in order to have their salaries rise scientists need to pass a certification exam. According to her, until now about 18.4 percent of scientists failed this exam.
"We have a phased program of salary increases, which will continue until 2025. At that point, we will record a significant increase in the salaries of scientists," she said.
The program came into effect in January 2022. It sets a new salary scale for those engaged in scientific activities.
By 2025, the salary of a researcher is expected to rise to 276,000 drams from 90,000 in 2021. Heads of research teams will have their salaries rise form 141,400 drams to 477,200 drams ($1 - 386.17 drams). -0-
