YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. The growing number of solar power plants in Armenia suggests that we will exceed the goals set by the energy development strategy, in particular, reaching a 15% share of solar energy in the total by 2030," Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan said during the Energy Week in Armenia forum today.

Sanosyan recalled that the goal is to reach 1,000 MW capacity of solar power plants.

"In addition, we have planned the construction of solar power plants with an additional total capacity of 500 MW in 2030-2040, combining them with storage plants if necessary, as well as the construction of small wind farms of similar capacity. In general, our goal is to bring the total capacity of solar and wind farms to 2,000 MW by 2040," he said.

Earlier, in April this year, Sanosyan said that 205 solar power plants operating in Armenia provided 450 MW of energy capacity, which is more than the capacity of Metsamor NPP (405 MW).

According to statistics, in the first nine months of 2023, solar power plants produced 615.3 million kWh of electricity (5.3% of the total), while wind power plants produced 1.4 million kWh (0.02%) --0--.
