What prevents Armenian business from developing? Bakur Melkonyan

02/15/2023, 14:35
"They say that a businessman should not engage in politics, I agree with that, but to say that business does not engage in politics is another mistake, because business, at least the economy, has a great influence on general politics. From the state's foreign policy to economic decisions, they affect business. Even a fair judicial system, who benefits, the businessman, the investor first? Business should interfere with politics for the sake of justice," says businessman Bakur Melkonyan in an interview with "Arka-Business" program.
According to him, the tax burden in Armenia is lower compared to other developed countries, but the problem is not whether the tax is high or low, but fair. The principle of injustice is that you pay a tax that your neighbor does not pay. In other words, there are no equal competitive conditions for everyone. Speaking about the state-business community cooperation, the businessman notes that there is a lot to be done. The businessman says that business-state cooperation is in its infancy. There is a need for a much higher level of communication, as there is a problem of branding the country, the absence of which hinders business. The problem of making the country recognizable can be solved as a result of state-business cooperation, which will benefit all branches of the economy.
