Armenia simplifies the process of road freight transportation with Kazakhstan

YEREVAN, April 30. /ARKA/. The process of road freight transportation between Armenia and Kazakhstan is set to become more streamlined. To facilitate this, the National Assembly Committee on Economic Affairs is reviewing a protocol that includes amendments to the Armenian-Kazakh agreement "On Road Traffic," originally established in 2006.

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Armen Simonyan, addressed the committee on Wednesday, explaining that this agreement primarily governs the transportation of both regular and irregular passenger services as well as freight activities.

He pointed out that a significant challenge in freight transportation between the two nations stems from the legislative approach to road and environmental tax collection.

“Our tax regime with nearly all EAEU countries allows carriers to be exempt from various taxes, fees, and charges linked to vehicle use during cargo transport, except for those fees applicable to domestic carriers on equal terms. The proposed protocol aims to establish a similar framework with Kazakhstan,” Simonyan stated.

He further mentioned that the protocol, which has been developed in coordination with the relevant authorities in Kazakhstan, was officially signed by Armenia on April 15, 2024, and has received approval from the appropriate parliamentary committee.-0-
