YEREVAN, October 15. /ARKA/. During its meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government approved the allocation of an additional 2.35 billion drams to fund the scientific sector.

Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, stated that the funds will be directed toward two primary objectives: the procurement of scientific equipment and the funding of grant-based research.
"Currently, 1.567 billion drams are earmarked for the purchase of 21 units of scientific equipment to re-equip 12 scientific centers, which will enable our universities and research institutes to further their development," Andreasyan noted.

Additionally, 789.6 million drams in grant funding have been allocated for three programs: "PostDoc-Armenia 2026"—aimed at attracting international scientists to conduct research in Armenia—as well as a program for establishing remote laboratories and an initiative to integrate international scientists into Armenia’s scientific community.

The funds will be reallocated from the budget for the "Academic City" project (these resources remained unspent due to pending procedures regarding the project site and the approval of the master plan).

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that funding for the scientific sector has tripled since 2018.

"We have secured funding for science; we established targets for the share of science within the GDP, and the 2026 budget now includes an allocation of 2.3 billion drams," Andreasyan said. ($1 = 361.49 drams).
