YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is adamant to make every effort to ensure that the highway from Armenia to Georgia running through the Bavra checkpoint become ideal and meet international standards, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in Tbilisi on Tuesday.

During at a meeting with the Armenian community of Georgia Pashinyan said he had raised the issue of roads when he first visited Georgia in the capacity of Armenian prime minister in 2018 summer. ‘Today the road from Armenia to the Georgian border is in good condition, but we intend to make it meet international standards," he said.

According to him, there is an agreement with the Georgian side that a section of the Ninotsminda-Bavra highway will be improved and repair work has already begun.

"The issue of roads is important for the two countries," Pashinyan said.

According to media reports, a 15 km section of the road stretching from the Georgian city of Ninotsminda to the border with Armenia is impassable due to the large and deep potholes. Drivers constantly complain that the government is not taking any action to solve this problem, and they are forced to repair cars every time they travel along this road.

The renovation of  the M-6 highway Yerevan-Alaverdi (Armenia) - the border of Georgia was launched in 2016. The project is financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).-0-
