Armenian government approves program to support development of greenhouse farms

YEREVAN, July 27. /ARKA/. The Armenian government approved today a plan of actions designed to support greenhouse farms in 2023-2023.

The main goal of the plan is to promote creation of greenhouse farms to increase output and exports, raise competitiveness of goods and incomes of agricultural entities.

Modern greenhouse farms with a total area of about 35 hectares will be built in 2023-2026; the yield is expected to double or triple up to 40-50 kg of tomatoes from 1 sq.m.

Greenhouses are expected to produce up to 6.7 thousand tons of tomatoes in 2024, up to 11.3 thousand tons in 2025 and up to 15.6 thousand tons in 2026.

Exports of tomatoes are to grow to 10 thousand tons each year starting from 2025. About 10-12 new jobs will be created to maintain a 1 hectare greenhouse and 350 jobs will be created for 35 hectare greenhouses.

According to the government's calculations, operation of a 35-hectare greenhouse is to generate about 168 million drams in personal income taxes a year, while construction of 35 hectare greenhouses would generate 490 million of added tax revenues. ($1 - 386.36 drams) -0-
