YEREVAN, March 12. /ARKA/. The opening of Carrefour hypermarket chain will bring new culture, and new international trade and service standards to Armenia, Aharon Adibekyan, head of Sociometer sociologic researches center, told journalists on Thursday.

The official opening of Carrefour took place in Yerevan on March 11.

The opening ceremony was attended by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. “I hope that along with Carrefour, international trade standards will come to Armenia, and this may impact competition prompting other supermarkets to improve their services,” Adibekyan said.

In his opinion, Carrefour will try to work in accordance with the principle ‘Much Sales – Low Prices’. It means that much sales will ensure much profits.

“Appearance of Carrefour in Armenia can be considered as advertising campaign, since I don’t think that one supermarket will bring it sufficient profits,” he said. “This is the fourth largest income-gainer and third biggest profit-gainer in the world among supermarket chains, and it means their management is excellent.”

Adibekyan also said that Carrefour established a new company in 2011 for working out an advanced marketing policy.

“They are planned to be renamed Carrefour Planet,” the expert said. «Armenia is the 50th country where Carrefour is opened. The total number of these supermarkets is 1,450 in the world,» he said.

Carrefour SA (crossroad Fr.) is a French retail trade company which operates Carrefour retail chain, the second biggest after Wal-Mart.

The matter of Carrefour entry in Armenia was vigorously being discussed throughout 2013.

The supermarket was opened yesterday in Yerevan Mall that occupies 66,000 square meters, of which 10,000 square meters are build up with premises in conformity with Carrefour standards. ---0-----.
