YEREVAN, July 9. /ARKA/. Fly Armenia Airways said it has been awarded an air operator certificate by the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia and is entering the local aviation market.

The airline said in a news release that it will operate flights to Russia, Europe and the Middle East, and also plans to launch direct flights to Los Angeles, Beijing and Shanghai.

Its fleet consists of Boeing 737 aircraft, and it will operate also freight aircraft Airbus A-300F and Boeing B-747F for transportation of goods.

The Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan will be used as a transit center due to its unique geographical location.

“Our goal is to increase the number of passengers and the volume of air transportation to and from Armenia. This will help improve the logistics and economic situation in the market, and thanks to our reliable passenger and cargo services, it will be possible to create new tourism and business destinations,” the company said.

The company's management consists of top managers with extensive experience in the German airline Lufthansa and Armenian aviation experts.

At present, two local airlines operate in Armenia: Armenia Airways and Armenia.  Taron Avia operated earlier on the market, making passenger flights to Russia and cargo transportation in Africa, however, the company stopped operations last November after the Civil Aviation Committee revealed a set of  serious violations.

Earlier, the European Commission updated the EU Air Safety List, banning all six airlines certified in Armenia from operating flights to EU countries, except for evacuation, humanitarian and medical flights. The airlines were placed in the list after the evaluation of their safety standards.-0-
