YEREVAN, May 15. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Food Safety Service said seven tomato and cucumber consignments, which had been banned by Russian agricultural safety watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor from entering Russia on May 3-9 via Georgia because of “quarantine organisms” found in the vegetables have been exported to Russia.

Earlier this month Rosselkhoznadzor said it may temporarily restrict the import of agricultural products from Armenia in case of repeated violations of the unified phytosanitary requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

It demanded that the Armenian Agriculture Ministry launch an inquiry and “take measures to prevent such instances,” warning that the failure to do so will lead the Russian side to restrict Armenian agricultural imports.

The Russian watchdog said they had revealed seven incidents of tomato miner moth (Tuta absoluta) on tomatoes and western (Californian) flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Perg.) on cucumbers in seven consignments that were to be shipped to Russia.

Armenia’s Food Safety Service said today in a statement that seven tomato and cucumber consignments were not sent back to Armenia as reported by some media, but underwent  appropriate classification and processing and exported to Russia.

The Armenian regulator also called on all exporters of agro products saying they should be attentive regarding the marking, documentation and compliance with technical requirements.

"There are no restrictions on the export of fruit and vegetable products, moreover, in case of compliance with all requirements, the licensing procedure takes a maximum of 20 minutes," it said. -0-
