Repairs to Arzni-2 - Yerevan main water pipeline, which caused water outages in three communities for a day and a half, nearing completion
YEREVAN, October 30. /ARКА/. The French-operated Veolia-Jur water distribution company has announced that the repairs on five segments of the Arzni-2 - Yerevan main water pipeline, which led to water outages in three districts of the capital for 36 hours, are nearing completion.
"In recent years, this crucial 800 mm diameter water pipeline has frequently suffered damage due to rockfalls, landslides, and the disposal of construction debris," the company reported.
To mitigate this problem, the Armenian Territorial Development Fund and Veolia-Jur have collaboratively devised a bypass project for the landslide-affected area. The construction work, which has spanned several months, is now nearing its conclusion, with efforts currently focused on connecting a 750-meter segment of the new water pipeline to the existing infrastructure.
Veolia Djur has indicated that a 45-meter segment of the pipeline is being replaced with a new one to eliminate the recurring breakdowns in one section of the pipeline. Additionally, a significant repair is underway on Section 3, which has also been susceptible to landslides. Flow meters are being installed on Sections 4 and 5 along Proshyan and Griboyedov Streets to enhance the controllability of the distribution network.
Veolia Jur CJSC, a subsidiary of the French firm Veolia Generale des Eaux, serves as the exclusive operator of water supply and wastewater services in Yerevan and several regions of Armenia. Since January 1, 2017, Veolia Djur has been managing the assets of five companies under a 15-year concession agreement.-0-
