Armenia Extends Livestock Investment Support Program Amounting to 82.4 Billion AMD
YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government extended the pilot program to support livestock investments worth approximately 82.4 billion AMD for another year and a half.

Under the program, launched in 2022, 11 agreements have already been signed, totaling approximately 82.4 billion AMD in investments. The project aims to increase investment in the livestock sector and promote food self-sufficiency by reducing dependence on imports.

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan stated that the minimum investment threshold in border areas is 500 million AMD, while in non-border areas it is 1 billion AMD or higher, and a 40% cashback on capital expenditures applies. He noted that one project has been implemented within the program, specifically, investments totaling 11.7 billion drams have been made, and the state has provided 2.3 billion drams in support, but approximately 2.4 billion drams in taxes have already been paid.

"Other investment programs have invested approximately 15.2 billion drams, including poultry farms in Spitak and Araks, the Ijevan-based Bacon company, and a cattle breeding project," Papoyan said.

The minister noted that issues with deadlines related to administrative procedures arose during the program's implementation.

"In particular, there were delays in environmental assessments, project approvals, and obtaining construction permits, which is why the investment programs were delayed," Papoyan noted. He reported that a new program is being planned at the same time, which concerns the construction of large “smart” livestock farms for 1,000 or more heads of cattle, and it will come into force on January 1, 2027.
