YEREVAN, May 29./ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC earned 40 million rubles in 2012, said Tuesday Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways OJSC.

“SCR Board of Directors got familiar with the report of the company’s CEO. It is a very accurate report which demonstrates the company is developing faster than it is indicated in the business plan, which was an inseparable part of the concession agreement,” Yakunin said at the opening of locomotive and wagon-repair depot in Gyumri, Armenian second largest city.

According to the president, there are higher growth rates now in freight processions and passenger transportation. The economic figures are also satisfactory.

He thanked Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and President Serzh Sargsyan for their careful attention and consideration.

“On our side, we are doing everything possible to fulfill the commitments indicated in the concession agreement,” Yakunin highlighted. He reiterated that the company is committed not only to attract investments, which valued at $250 million over 5 years, but also to restore railway equipment, create new jobs, organize social events.

“This whole performance is controlled and monitored by the government and other high officials,” Yakunin said.

South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.

Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. -0-
