Spayka head to be released after paying one billion drams
YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) said on April 4 that David Ghazaryan, the owner of Armenia's largest food exporting company Spayka, will be released from custody after the grounds for his arrest have been dropped.

It explained that the decision was taken by prosecutors after Ghazaryan paid one billion drams (the equivalent of about 2.1 million US dollars) to the so-called single bank account. On April 30 Armenia’s Court of Appeals declined a petition to release David Ghazaryanon on bail.

His lawyer Arsen Sardaryan said that Spayka was ready to provide any reasonable amount if Ghazaryan were released on bail, saying also there was no reason to believe that while at large, Ghazaryan would prevent the investigation into a tax evasion case, launched against the company.

On April 5, Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) accused Spayka of evading over 7 billion drams ($14.4 million) in import taxes and asked a court in Yerevan to allow its head David Ghazaryan’s pre-trial arrest. Ghazaryan denied the accusations. On March 26, Spayka commissioned a $15 million worth cheese factory in Yerevan. The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Armenia’s leading freight and agribusiness company Spayka was founded in 2001. It is Armenia’s leading exporter of fruits, vegetables and some prepared foodstuffs. The company says it has more than 1,200 people on its payrolls..-0---
