Total area of greenhouses in Armenia doubled over five years
YEREVAN, June 29. /ARKA/. The total area of greenhouses in Armenia is about 1,220.8 hectares now against 510 hectares in 2011, the press office of Armenia’s agriculture ministry reports.

Some 310 hectares of greenhouses are grassed and 910 hectares are covered by plastic. Of them, 101 hectares are equipped in conformity with modern standards.

Some 59.4 hectares are in Kotayk province, 39.4 hectares in Ararat and 2.2hectares in Armavir.

“Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, garden radishes, beans, greens, potatoes, strawberries and flowers grow in greenhouses,” the agriculture ministry says in its press release.

The ministry says all the greenhouses are properly equipped and they have automated control systems made in European countries.

Besides, high-qualified foreign specialists are involved in the process. These improvements have produced certain results – they ensure cost prices and high quality of products.

Other modern greenhouses built on 50 hectares are expected to be commissioned this year.

“Thanks to development of greenhouse businesses, local high-quality tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and flowers dominated Armenian markets already in 2015, and exports grew,” the agriculture ministry says. -0----
