YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced the dispatch of another batch of cognac from Armenia to Russia.

"Yesterday, 26 trucks loaded with Armenian cognac entered Russia in one day. This is the best indicator of the year so far," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Supplies of Armenian cognac to Russia were effectively disrupted after Georgian authorities introduced physical inspections of alcoholic beverages at the end of April. Many trucks carrying Armenian cognac were detained in Georgia pending the results of lengthy quality checks.

Exporters heavily dependent on the Russian market suffered significant losses due to the disruption of delivery schedules.

In recent weeks, Armenian officials have repeatedly raised this issue with the authorities in Tbilisi. Papoyan and the head of Armenia's State Revenue Committee, Eduard Akopian, held talks with their Georgian counterparts in Tbilisi.

Papoyan later reported that an agreement had also been reached to remove the main obstacles to the transit of Armenian cognac through Georgia to Russia.-0-
