Armenia’s Zvartnots airport handles 1.22 million passengers and 6,270 tons of cargo in Jan.-Sept.
YEREVAN, October 13, /ARKA/. Armenia’s international Zvartnots airport said it handled over 1.22 million passengers and 6,270 tons of cargo in the first nine months of this year. A statement on the official website of the government-affiliated Chief Civil Aviation Department says 575,800 people arrived in Armenia in the reporting period of time and 641,700 departed through the airport.
Also 3,778 tons of cargo arrived in the country through the airport and 2,489 tons were taken outside it by air.
According to the statement, in 2009 January-September the airport handled 1.1 million passengers and the volume of cargo going through it was 6,375 tons.
The airport and in the second largest town of Gyumri in the northwestern province of Shirak (it is also the reserve airport) handled 33,600 passengers in Jan.-September 2010, up from 16,600 from a year before, while the volume of cargo going through it rose from 2.03 tons to 5.27 tons. Armenia’s largest airport is run by American International Airports in accordance with a concessional agreement signed for 30 years. American International Airports is owned by an Argentinean Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian. -0-
