Energy projects to top Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission meeting agenda

Joint Armenian-Iranian energy projects will top the agenda of a recurrent meeting of Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission that is scheduled to meet May 30 in Iran, Armenian energy and natural resources minister, Armen Movsisyan, said today.
YEREVAN, May 18. / ARKA /. Joint Armenian-Iranian energy projects will top the agenda of a recurrent meeting of Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission that is scheduled to meet May 30 in Iran, Armenian energy and natural resources minister, Armen Movsisyan, said today to ARKa news agency today.

He said the commission will discuss, among other things, also construction of a pipeline from Iran to Armenia for delivery of oil products.

Armenia and Iran have built a natural gas pipeline bringing Iranian gas to Armenia and are considering also construction of a hydropower plant on the border river of Arax near the Armenian town of Meghri.

Earlier this year the minister said construction of Meghri hydro-power station was planned to start in 2011 and finish in five years. From the Armenian side the station will be located in Meghri and from the Iranian side – in Karakichilar. Each of the stations will annually produce 793 million kilowatt/hour energy. The capacity of Meghri hydro-power station will be 130 megawatt.-0-
