YEREVAN, September 11. /ARKA/. Armenia adheres to a policy of free markets and open borders, stated Central Bank Deputy Chairman Hovhannes Khachatryan on Friday at the 4Future Banking forum in Yerevan.
"Armenia's policy is a free market, open borders, and open transactions with all partner countries," he said.
Khachatryan noted that the Central Bank is pleased with the success of Armenian companies abroad, as well as the arrival of companies partnering with local financial institutions in Armenia. "Our policy is openness, it is economic prosperity," he stated.
The Central Bank Deputy Chairman added that Armenia's financial sector has proven its resilience over more than three decades and is now not only a segment serving the economy but also an independent sector.
Khachatryan also noted its export orientation, calling the financial sector one of the most important factors in the country's economy.
Technology and Innovation
Speaking about the development of financial technologies, Khachatryan noted that technological capabilities are expanding and new solutions are emerging rapidly, but technology should not become an end in itself.
According to him, the ultimate goal of their use should be to improve the efficiency and security of financial services, increase the speed of transactions, and ensure pricing that is acceptable to consumers.
The Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank also emphasized the importance of trust in the implementation of new technologies—both in those providing financial services and in the infrastructure on which they are based.
He noted that financial infrastructure is no longer limited to interactions within the financial sector and that connecting public and private services through it is crucial.
According to Khachatryan, a high level of mutual trust in such an ecosystem is a key condition for the adoption of technologies.
