Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia Discuss Integrating Power Grids with Turkey

Representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia have discussed the potential for integrating the power grids of the South Caucasus nations and possible steps to connect them to Turkey's energy system, according to Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).

Representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia have discussed the potential for integrating the power grids of the South Caucasus nations and possible steps to connect them to Turkey's energy system, according to Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).
The discussion took place in Tbilisi on the sidelines of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER IX) during a meeting between PSRC Chairman Mesrop Mesropyan, the President of the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) Pedro Verdelho, and representatives of the EU4Energy program.
Also participating in the meeting were David Narmania, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), and Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA).
"The meeting addressed opportunities for the mutual integration of South Caucasus power grids and the deepening of regional energy cooperation, as well as potential steps to connect the region's energy systems to Turkey's energy system," the statement said.
Mesropyan thanked the European partners for their technical assistance regarding energy regulation in Armenia and for the close cooperation established between the parties.
The PSRC head also emphasized the importance of support in drafting the bylaws required for the construction of storage facilities mandated by energy legislation.
