Cargo transportation volume in Armenia increased by 0.7% in Q1, while passenger transportation decreased by 26.7%

The total volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 3,462.5 thousand tons, increasing by 0.7% compared to the first quarter of 2024, while the total volume of passenger transportation amounted to 37,161.2 thousand people, with a decline of 26.7%.

The total volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to 3,462.5 thousand tons, increasing by 0.7% compared to the first quarter of 2024, while the total volume of passenger transportation amounted to 37,161.2 thousand people, with a decline of 26.7%. In January-March of the current year, 70.7% or 1,499.2 thousand tons of the total volume of freight transportation was accounted for by road transport (a 0.6% decline compared to January-March last year), 18.9% or 655.2 thousand tons by trunk pipeline transport (a 4.6% decline), 10.1% or 348.8 thousand tons by rail transport (an increase of 21.3%) and 0.3% or 9.5 thousand tons by air transport (an increase of 6.7%).
Freight turnover for the reporting period amounted to 1,344.0 million ton-km, a decrease of 2.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. At the same time, freight turnover via main pipeline transport amounted to 1,035.4 million ton-km (share 77%, decline by 0.6%), road transport – 211.4 million ton-km (share – 15.7%, decline by 18.7%), rail transport – 93.7 million ton-km (share 7%, growth by 17.4%), air transport – 3.5 million ton-km (share 0.3%, growth by 59.1%). In January-March 2025, 79.2% or 29,422.2 thousand people of the total passenger transportation volume were accounted for by automobile transport (a decline of 28.7%), 17.7% or 6,574.3 thousand people by electric transport (a decline of 19.8%), 2.8% or 1,055.8 thousand people by air transport (an increase of 1.2%) and 0.3% or 108.9 thousand people by rail transport (a decline of 13.7%).
Passenger turnover for the first three months of 2025 amounted to 776.9 million passenger-km, a decrease of 17% compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, passenger turnover by air transport amounted to 49.9% or 387.5 million passenger-km (a decline of 6%), road transport - 45.6% or 354.3 million passenger-km (a decline of 26.1%), electric transport - 3.2% or 25.8 million passenger-km (a decline of 21.1%), and rail transport - 1.2% or 9.3 million passenger-km (a decline of 16.2%).
Road accidents
In the first quarter of this year, 978 road accidents occurred in Armenia, which is 9.4% more than in the same period last year.
