ALMATY, June 25. /ARKA/. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) intends to allocate $13.5 billion to projects in its member countries as part of its strategy for 2027–2031, announced Nikolay Podguzov, Chairman of the EDB Management Board, on the sidelines of a business forum dedicated to the bank's 20th anniversary.

According to him, the volume of financing for projects in Armenia will be determined after the approval of the new country strategy.

"For the next period—2027–2031—we have planned an investment volume of $13.5 billion. This is 10–15%, and potentially up to 20%, more than envisaged in the previous strategy. We are confident that we will achieve this baseline scenario," Podguzov said.

According to him, the bank has already exceeded its initial investment targets under its current 2022–2026 strategy.

"We committed to investing $10.9 billion in projects in member countries. This target has now been exceeded, and I think the investment volume will reach $12 billion by the end of the year," the EDB head noted.

He added that the final distribution of investments among countries will be determined after the completion of the new country strategies, which are scheduled for approval in October–November.

Speaking about Armenia, Podguzov reported that during the 2022–2026 strategic period, the bank's investments in the country totaled approximately $380 million, exceeding the initially planned volume.

"We will further clarify the exact investment volumes in Armenia for the next period. However, during the previous strategic period, they amounted to $380 million—this is above our initial target," he said.

Among the EDB's largest projects in Armenia, Podguzov named financing for the Electric Networks of Armenia company, the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine, projects with the Yeremyan Group, and the construction of a solar power plant.

According to him, the bank's portfolio in Armenia may soon expand with new initiatives.

"I think a logistics project will be added. Furthermore, today we are signing a project to develop the Mailer tourist complex," the EDB Chairman of the Management Board stated.

Podguzov noted that the new country strategy will be developed taking into account the priorities of the Armenian government.

"We will strive to formulate a country strategy that is appropriate and beneficial for Armenia," he stated.

According to the head of the EDB, the key areas of the bank's new investment strategy will be the development of the Eurasian transport and logistics complex, food security and logistics, high-value-added industry, and the hydropower sector in Central Asia.
