Gref describes the idea of windfall tax for banks unprofessional
YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. The head of Russian Sberbank German Gref voiced today his opposition to any withdrawal of income from the banking sector, which is set to close this year with record profits.
"The banking sector has suffered significantly and it is absurd to levy new taxes on it. The idea of introducing new windfall taxes for banks is absurd; this sector is one of the most affected in the economy," German Gref said at a press briefing during the Investor Day.
According to him, the banking sector is the most affected of all sectors of the economy.
"Just look at the level of capital adequacy of banks. We came out of this situation thanks to a number of things, including our good technological preparation. Look at the situation with other banks. The Central Bank gave ten-year easing for a reason; the Central Bank sees the situation in the banks very well. It would not have given such easing if it did not see the situation with capital. I am in favor of having some conversations with professionals, I usually do not listen to non-professionals," Gref said. -0-
