In Armenia, over the first 5 months of 2026, the birth rate decreased by 2.7%, mortality - by 6.3%

YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. In Armenia, in January-May 2026, compared to January-May 2025, the birth rate decreased by 2.7%, and the death rate by 6.3%. This is evidenced by data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).

Fertility

In 5 months of 2026, 11,720 children were born in the country, while in 5 months of 2025 there were 12,051 newborns.

At the same time, 142 cases of stillbirth were registered during the reporting period, this figure is 15% less than for the same period in 2025.

The population vitality coefficient - the ratio of births to deaths - in January-March 2026 was 111.7% compared to 107.6% in the same period last year.

Mortality

In January-May of this year, 10,493 people died in Armenia compared to 11,201 people in the same period last year. More than half of the people (52.3% or 5,486 people) died due to diseases of the circulatory system, this figure is 6.4% less than in January-May 2025.

In second place among the causes of mortality are neoplasms (21.3% or 2,237 people, an increase of 6%).

Among other causes of death, diseases of the respiratory organs (9.9% or 1,038 people, a decrease of 13.6%), diseases of the digestive organs (5.3% or 562 people, an increase of 2.2%), external causes (3.1% or 325 people, a decrease of 4.4%), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1% or 217 people, a decrease of 12.1%), infectious diseases (0.6% or 63 people, a decline of 53.3%).
