YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. EU trade specialists will visit Armenia in the coming weeks to work with local producers and exporters, the EU Delegation to Armenia announced.

The purpose of the visit is to assist Armenian companies in finding new buyers in Europe and other markets.

The delegation recalled that the EU is providing practical support to Armenia in addition to a €52 million aid package, of which €34 million has already been allocated, with an additional €18 million planned for release soon.

As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated during her visit to Yerevan, "Armenia can rely on us."

The EU delegation also announced that Armenian producers will receive greater access to the EU market. This refers to the proposed autonomous trade measures, which are intended to liberalize approximately 80% of Armenian exports to the EU. These measures, according to the statement, will cover nearly 99% of fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants, as well as over 91% of beverages and alcoholic beverages, which were affected by Russia's recently imposed trade restrictions.

The EU states that it seeks to support Armenian businesses in diversifying export markets and creating new opportunities in Europe, a market with 450 million consumers.

Earlier, von der Leyen announced that the EU would allocate an additional €18 million to Armenia to strengthen and diversify trade. These funds are the final part of the previously announced €52 million budget support package and may be used, in particular, to establish an Export Promotion Agency.

Restrictions on Products from Armenia to Russia

Effective June 12, 2026, Russia has restricted the import of all quarantine products originating in and shipped from Armenia, as well as their transit through Russia to EAEU member states. Rosselkhoznadzor's restrictions specifically target Jermuk mineral water, alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, and herbs.

The agency cited the "systematic detection of quarantine organisms" in plant products and flowers from Armenia as the reason.

It is noted that the ban will remain in effect until a specific algorithm for ensuring the safety and traceability of shipped goods is developed.

On support for exporters in Armenia

Against the backdrop of Russian trade restrictions, Armenia has expanded its support measures for exporters, particularly to EU countries. For example, the government is compensating transportation costs and customs duties on shipments of fruits, vegetables, and flowers to the EU, the UK, and Canada, and is also providing subsidies for a number of export goods.

On July 2, the Armenian government extended the state support program for the export of certain products through July and expanded the list of goods eligible for compensation. Compensation will be provided to exporters of fresh fruits, certain food products, and beverages exported from Armenia during July 2026. The list of subsidized products includes new categories: dried fruits and vegetables, as well as trout and sturgeon.
