Armenia Proposes Expanding Cooperation with Iran in Four Key Areas

On Tuesday, at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan proposed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and logistics.
YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/. On Tuesday, at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan proposed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and logistics.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Economy, Papoyan, in particular, proposed expanding cooperation in several key areas: increasing trade and Armenian exports, joint production and investment, energy and logistics cooperation, and further improving border procedures.
The minister noted that the high level of political dialogue between Armenia and Iran must be translated into more tangible economic results by expanding the presence of Armenian products in the Iranian market and more effectively leveraging the opportunities offered by the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran.
The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation in the energy and logistics sectors, as well as the possibility of long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied gas.
According to Armstat, Armenia's trade turnover with Iran in the first half of 2026 amounted to $371.4 million, an increase of 8.4%. Exports totaled $42.8 million (a 6% decline), while imports totaled $336.9 million (an increase of 12%).
