YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that the steps taken so far to improve environmental standards in the country’s mining sector are insufficient.

"This issue is also linked to public perception of the mining industry, which is very important. It is clear that the question of environmental standards both in Armenia and globally is becoming increasingly pressing due to the well-known global challenges we face," Pashinyan said while speaking at the Mining Armenia Forum 2026 in Tsaghkadzor on Saturday.

He noted that this year’s forum coincides with the COP17 biodiversity summit being held in Armenia, which serves as an additional reason to highlight the need to bring the country’s mining sector into alignment with the highest possible standards.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the planet as a whole is confronting highly complex environmental challenges, and that all nations have a duty to contribute to addressing them.

In this context, he emphasized that environmental standards are a critical issue, one that carries significant weight for Armenia’s international and regional reputation.

At the same time, Pashinyan remarked that while certain measures have already been taken in this regard, they remain inadequate.

The Mining Armenia Forum 2026 is being held under the theme "From Resources to Opportunities." The event is organized by the "Mining Forum" Development Foundation and the Armenian Mining and Metallurgy Association.
