YEREVAN, May 28. /ARKA/. Rosselkhoznadzor will temporarily restrict the import of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green vegetables, and strawberries originating and shipped from Armenia, effective May 30, 2026, until an appropriate algorithm is developed to ensure the safety of shipped products.
As noted on the agency's website, the decision was made due to the increasing number of violations in the supply of Armenian fruit and vegetable products to Russia and to ensure phytosanitary safety. The current situation poses a threat to the phytosanitary status of the country.
"Furthermore, the competent Armenian agency has failed to take appropriate measures to address previously identified violations," the statement reads.
It is noted that, following inspections of Armenian enterprises conducted by Rosselkhoznadzor from May 21-27, a number of violations were identified, namely the presence of quarantine facilities for EAEU member states in greenhouse complexes. This is confirmed by systematic detections of these facilities during the import of Armenian fruit and vegetable products – 181 cases in 2026.
Furthermore, according to data from Rosselkhoznadzor's information system, a large quantity of fruit and vegetable products is supplied by numerous Armenian participants in foreign economic activity with unknown ownership, who evade quarantine phytosanitary control. This indicates that their Armenian counterparts lack a product traceability system for export to Russia.
