YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railway CEO Viktor Rebets summarized today the results of a regular autumn inspection.

“For five years of its work in Armenia the South Caucasus Railway has invested about AMD 100 billion, of which AMD 65 billion in modernization of the infrastructure,” Rebets was quoted by the company’s press office as saying. “

About 300 kilometers of railways have been repaired for this period and 412,500 sleepers have been placed. Some 15 kilometers of railway will undergo a capital repair, 19 kilometers a strengthened medium repair and 31kilometers a strengthened track-raising operation.”

Rebets said the state of the railway tracks had improved a great deal since the beginning of this year. He singled out considerable improvement of the technical state of rail stations of Gyumri and Masis among achievements and voiced satisfaction at electricity and energy supply.

At the same time, he pointed out some faults which had resulted from ineffective management.
Rebets said that in autumn and winter managers personally must inspect railway lines once a week and take every measure to improve the infrastructure and remove faults.

South Caucasus Railway, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway, which was handed over to the South Caucasus Railway on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. ---0---
