YEREVAN, February 3, /ARKA/. On Thursday Ukraine signed an agreement with the European Union on joining EU's Single Market Program, Russian news agency Tass reported.

It said the news was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a joint press briefing with visiting President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv.

"We signed an agreement on Ukraine's participation in the European Union’s Single Market program with a budget of EUR 4.2 billion," Shmyhal said.

Ukraine and the EU also signed a memorandum on strategic partnership in the field of renewable gases, biomethane, hydrogen and other synthetic gases.

The European Union’s Single Market Program is a financial support program of the EU with a budget of EUR 4.2 billion, which is designed for 7 years (from 2021 to 2027). It is  designed to simplify access to the markets of EU countries, promote business and its development, competitiveness and stability of companies and entire sectors of the economy.

Ursula von der Leyen, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and 14 key European commissioners arrived in Kyiv on Thursday for a joint meeting with the Ukrainian government ahead of the EU-Ukraine summit slated for Friday.

The EU-Ukraine summit will be the first since Russia launched a special military operation. In addition to the heads of the EC and EU diplomacy, the EU Council President Charles Michel will represent the EU at the meeting.

According to the high-ranking EU representative, the main topics of this summit will be the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU, the so-called peace plan of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the settlement of the conflict, the assistance of the community to the country, as well as food security. -0-
