On April 24, Armenians worldwide commemorate those killed by Ottomans 94 years ago. Every year, hundreds of thousands visit Tsitsernakaberd, Armenian Genocide Victims Memorial in Yerevan, to pay floral tribute to the victims of the genocide.

Every year, hundreds of thousands visit Tsitsernakaberd, Armenian Genocide Victims Memorial in Yerevan, to pay floral tribute to the victims of the genocide.
The Armenian president, members of the Government, MPs, foreign diplomats, representatives of Armenian overseas communities and guests from other countries will visit the memorial, as every year.
The genocide was orchestrated by Union and Progress, Young Turks’ party supported by Keiser Germany, ally of Ottoman Empire in the World War I.
The masterminds of the crime managed to avoid punishment, but they were tracked down and killed by Armenian patriots.
Anatol Frans, Franz Werfel, Valery Bryusov, Maxim Gorky and Fridtjof Nansen as well ass other famous persons expressed their sympathies with Armenian people.
Ankara doesn’t view what happened 94 years ago a genocide and denied the fact of mass massacre.
The movement seeking international recognition of the genocide fact revived in 1965, yet in Soviet epoch.
As a result, dozens of countries and international organizations have recognized the fact.
The fact of Armenian Genocide has been recognized by Uruguay, Lithuania, Russia, France, 42 states of the United States, Lower House of Italian Parliament as well as Greek, Cyprian, Argentine, Slovakian, Belgian, Sweden, Lebanese and Venezuelan parliaments.
Swiss, Canadian, Dutch and Polish lawmakers have recognized the fact as well.
This year’s commemoration is singled out for some peculiarities, such as certain thaw visible in Armenian-Turkish relations.
The intensive dialogue started by the two countries’ presidents has already produced results.
On Wednesday, Armenian Turkish and Swiss foreign ministries issued a joint statement on “a roadmap” drawn by them to improve the relations.
The other peculiarity is a high probability of recognition of the genocide fact by the United States, key ally to Turkey.
U.S. President Barack Obama and many high-ranking officials have expressed their willingness to recognize the fact of the genocide.
More than that, being in Turkey, Obama said he remained steadfast in his intention.
Every year, on April 24, U.S. presidents address Armenian people.
American Armenians hope that Obama will pronounce “genocide” word in his speech this year.
Armenian Genocide has inflicted tremendous damage to spiritual and material culture of Armenian people.
Thousands of Armenian manuscripts kept in monasteries have been demolished and hundreds of historic and architectural memorials destroyed. -0--
