Armenian foreign minister: Karabakh republic citizens display their devotion to liberty again

On May 23, citizens of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic displayed their devotion to liberty again by electing their parliament, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said Monday in his statement.
YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. On May 23, citizens of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic displayed their devotion to liberty again by electing their parliament, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said Monday in his statement.
Some 70% of Karabakhi citizens eligible to vote went to polls on Sunday.
Nalbandayn said that independent foreign observers have found these elections up to the republic’s law and international criteria.
“Recognition of Karabakhi people’s inalienable right to determine own fate comes as key point in OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ proposals on settlement of Karabakh conflict. The current negotiations are based on these proposals.”
The minister thinks that the international community should be interested in cooperation with the authorities elected by Karabakhi people.
Four political parties – Azat Hayrenik (Free Homeland) headed by Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan, Democratic Party of Artsakh led by Parliament Speaker Ashot Gulyan, Nagorno-Karabakh Communist Party headed by Hrant Melkumyan and Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun - run for seats in Nagorno-Karabakh Parliament.
Armen Sargsyan topped the list of Dashnaktsutyun’s candidates.
Some 82 candidates competed in these elections.
Of them, 42 were members of parties and other 40 independent candidates.
Some 17 seats of 33 seats in Karabakhi parliament are filled through party lists and 16 in individual races.
According to preliminary results of the vote, Azat Hayrenik party won 17,537 votes (45.8%).--0---
