Armenia could act as a gravity center: expert
YEREVAN, June 29, /ARKA/. Unlike its neighbors Georgia and Azerbaijan, Armenia has all chances to act as the center of gravity in the South Caucasus, Richard Giragossian, head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS), told a news conference today.
Richard Giragossian is an analyst specializing in international relations, with a focus on economics, military security and political developments in the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Asia. He was appointed director of ACNIS in 2009.
‘Armenia is the only regional nation striving for peace and stability. The international community knows this and perceives it as such,’ he said.
According to him, Armenia should not content itself with the fact that its democracy is higher than in Georgia and Azerbaijan or with the fact that its army is stronger. “We need to be critical of our faults along with reinforcing our positions in information war to become the strongest actor in the region that poses threat to no one,’ he said.
According to him, then Armenia could tell the international community that the failed Armenian-Turkish reconciliation is to be blamed on Ankara and the stalemated Nagorno-Karabakh peace process on Azerbaijan. -0-
