18.01.2011, 16:57
Armenian-Cyprus economic cooperation should be raised to the level of friendly ties between the two nations, Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan said Monday when addressing the Cyprus-Armenian business forum in Nicosia.
YEREVAN, January 18, /ARKA/. Armenian-Cyprus economic cooperation should be raised to the level of friendly ties between the two nations, Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan said Monday when addressing the Cyprus-Armenian business forum in Nicosia.

He said both sides should work to fill this gap, saying the current situation is due to lack of information, efforts and passivity of both sides. He, however, added that the first successes are very encouraging. He then stressed the important role that commerce and industry chambers of both countries as well as business unions should play in boosting Armenian-Cyprus trade and economic ties.

‘I am confident that this business forum will give a strong impetus to our trade and economic relations and mutually profitable cooperation between our business communities,’ president Sargsyan said.

Armenian president singled out the role of banking sector and tourism in boosting bilateral relations. He then spoke about prospects in cooperation in agriculture and food processing, emphasizing exchange of information between business people of both countries dealing with production of organic food.

President Sargsyan also stressed the coordinated and persistent work of diplomats in both countries for developing bilateral relations.-0-
