YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. Armenian opposition will fail in its attempt to pattern after Arab countries’ revolution scenario, Suren Zolyan, chancellor of Yerevan State Linguistic University, said Thursday at a news conference. The revolts that rocked some Arab countries recently have already resulted in overthrow Egyptian and Tunisian governments.

Libya is now in the grip of protests. Protesters there demand Muammar Gaddafi, who has ruled the country for 42 years, to resign. The country’s authorities are trying to suppress the revolt by using force. The death toll reportedly reached 1,000. Some 4,000 were wounded.

Civil unrest continues in Yemen and Bahrain.

Anti-government demonstrations were staged also in Algeria, Iraq and Jordan.

Zolyan said that regimes in Arab countries have always made every effort to suppress opposition-minded people. That is why revolts there are spontaneous, without leaders.

“If there were leaders, maybe nobody would follow them,” the political analyst said.

Speaking about things in Armenia, he said that the country’s people are unlikely to follow opposition activists, particularly Levon Ter-Petrosyan, leader of Armenian National Congress and former president, and Tigran Karapetyan, head of People Party.

In his opinion, there is a widespread disaffection for these leaders.

He is convinced that even those who are unhappy about the ruling regime, are unlikely to join them. -0-
