US government ready to assist Armenia in presidential election 2008

The US Government is ready to assist Armenia in the presidential election in 2008, said US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice during her meeting with RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsian in Washington.
YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. The US Government is ready to assist Armenia in the presidential election in 2008, said US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice during her meeting with RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsian in Washington.
The parties discussed a number of issues concerning democratic and economic reforms in Armenia. The RA Premier introduced the steps undertaken by Government to the implementation of those programs.
He pointed out that the recent parliamentary elections in Armenia have created a sustainable basis for the improvement of the electoral system.
Rice and Sargsian discussed the current stage of the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, attaching importance to the quick settlement of the issue.
Azerbaijan’s war threats do not support this process, according to the RA Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the parties also touched upon the issue of Armenia’s cooperation with its neighbor countries, as well as energy and security issues and the country’s participation in peace keeping missions.
On October 17, the Armenian delegation headed by RA Premier Serge Sargsian paid a seven-day official visit to the USA. Z. Sh. –0--
