YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. Armenia and Iran are actively cooperating in the infrastructure sector, implementing a number of important projects, said Armenian Ambassador to Iran Arsen Avakyan.

"With the participation of Iranian companies, construction work is underway on the 32-kilometer section of the Qajaran-Agarak road of the North-South road transport project. In addition to its important infrastructural significance, this project has strategic, economic, civilizational and cultural significance. It will become one of the important hubs connecting the North with the South and the Persian Gulf with the Black Sea," Avakyan said in an interview with the Iranian news agency ‘’ISNA’’.

The ambassador named the increase in transport capacity and the use of the enormous transit potential of the two states as the next step in the development of bilateral economic relations.

“To achieve this goal, we emphasize the importance of implementing practical steps towards ensuring free entry of passenger and cargo transport to Armenia and Iran, as well as the modernization of the Meghri border crossing point, carried out by an Iranian company,” Avakyan noted.

Speaking about significant achievements in the energy sector, the ambassador mentioned the agreement signed last year to extend the ‘’Gas for Electricity’’ program. According to Avakyan, this makes it possible to increase the volume of electricity supplies to Iran while simultaneously receiving more gas. Among the most important bilateral economic projects is the work on the construction of the third Iran-Armenia high-voltage transmission line, the ambassador noted. -0-
