YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. Armenia has not submitted an application for EU membership, said Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, answering a question about combining the country's membership in the EAEU with integration with the EU.

"Negotiations are not being held in this direction, and the question that may arise in this regard is inappropriate. I cannot make judgments regarding this scenario," Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Yerevan on Wednesday.

Armenia - EAEU - EU

On March 26, 2025, the National Assembly of Armenia approved a draft law on the beginning of the country's accession to the European Union. On April 4, the law was signed by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan. As stated by the head of the National Assembly Committee on European Integration Arman Egoyan, this bill simply expresses the will of the Armenian people, at the moment the submission of an application for membership of the republic in the EU is not envisaged.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia does not plan to sever economic ties and does not set the task of reducing the volume of trade turnover with the EAEU and Russia. According to him, Armenia is on the path of economic diversification and wants to increase trade turnover with the European Union as well.

According to Armstat, in 2024, Armenia's trade volume with the EAEU increased by 54%, exceeding $12.7 billion, while trade with the EU, on the contrary, decreased by 11.7% to $2.34 billion. Armenia's largest partner in the EAEU is Russia (trade turnover for January-December - $12.4 billion, growth over the year - 56.5%).-0-
