YEREVAN, August 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan stated that the government's forecast of a 50% increase in agricultural production is based on previous work.
He cited investments in intensive agriculture as an example, noting that the government has subsidized some of these investments.
"Thousands of hectares of intensive orchards have been created in Armenia, which, incidentally, exceeds the targets set by our strategy. All these facilities will soon begin to yield crops, and this gives us hope that we can set such a goal for ourselves," he said in an interview with Shant TV. According to the Armstat report on Armenia's GDP indicators in the second quarter, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector showed the largest decline: this segment contracted by 15.3% year-on-year (share of GDP - 6.6%).
