Estimates of declining university admissions in Armenia don't provide a complete picture, as they primarily only take into account those admitted based on the results of the Unified Examinations (UNESC), said Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.

Estimates of declining university admissions in Armenia don't provide a complete picture, as they primarily only take into account those admitted based on the results of the Unified Examinations (UNESC), said Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.
"In addition to the unified exam system, Armenia also has interstate and international universities, which have a different admissions system," Andreasyan said at a press conference.
According to her, the number of people applying to and being admitted to these universities has increased in recent years.
"In 2022, 1,919 people were admitted to these universities, and in 2026, the number increased by 56.9% to 3,011," the minister stated.
She emphasized that to obtain a complete picture, it is also necessary to include Armenian citizens studying abroad. However, accurate statistics are only kept for male citizens due to the possibility of deferring military service upon admission to the top 50 universities.
According to the minister, their number has almost doubled compared to 2022, from 131 to 252.
"Based on the results of the unified exams, 10,932 citizens were admitted to our public and private universities. This represents 49.23% of graduates, but if we add to this the number of those admitted abroad, as well as to interstate and international universities, we see that approximately 64.5% of our graduates are admitted to universities," Andreasyan noted.
She added that this figure should also include those enrolled in part-time programs, as well as students who transferred to universities from colleges. These data will be updated in the first months of autumn.
