Armenia is considering importing electricity from various countries, including Azerbaijan, if necessary, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
YEREVAN, August 27. /ARKA/. Armenia is considering importing electricity from various countries, including Azerbaijan, if necessary, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"There are different energy supply regimes. Sometimes countries have a surplus, sometimes they have demand. Considering Armenia's investments in artificial intelligence, we need to understand whether, if necessary, we have the ability to import electricity from elsewhere, including from Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said at a briefing on Thursday, commenting on the recent meeting of representatives of the energy ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Lachin.
According to the prime minister, Armenia is discussing similar issues with Georgia, Iran, and Turkey.
"Furthermore, there is a project financed by the EU, and a converter station is being built on the border with Georgia to facilitate the export and import of electricity," Pashinyan said.
On August 25, a working meeting was held in Lachin between representatives of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia and the Electricity System Operator of Armenia, along with representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and Azerenergy.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of importing and exporting electricity between the two countries, as well as possible options for connecting the two countries' energy infrastructures at the state border.
