YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. Armenian MP Maria Karapetyan, representing the country in the Euronest’s Parliamentary Assembly’s Bureau, did not vote for a Euronest Bureau’s resolution.

Maria Karapetyan, who is head of the Armenian delegation to Euronest PA, declined to disclose the content of the resolution.

"I did not vote for the resolution. The content of the resolution will be edited today by interested Bureau members and will be published," Karapetyan said in response to reporters’ question about whether it had anti-Russian wording.

“As a country that went through the horrors of war in the fall of 2020, Armenia can have no other expectations or hopes but peace. I suggest that we wait until the statement of the Bureau is released. Since I didn't vote for the resolution, I don't think it's appropriate to comment on its content," she said.

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Bureau meeting kicked off in Yerevan on Tuesday. One of the items of discussion is titled "Russia's military build-up on the Ukrainian border."

All members of delegations who spoke during the meeting unequivocally condemned the recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics by Russia, describing it as a threat to the security of the region and peace.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared his recognition of the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics. Agreements on friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance were signed with their leaders, Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik.

The move was condemned by NATO, the European Union, and the United States, a number of European countries, Turkey, and Georgia. Russia's recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics was welcomed by Nagorno-Karabakh and Syria.

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly consists of a delegation from the European Parliament and delegations from the EU's Eastern European Partners - countries that participate in the Eastern Partnership initiative: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The European Parliament has 60 delegates, and the Eastern European Partners have 10 each. -0-
